This policy explains what personal information Enduring Stories collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to our website and to the interviews and heirlooms we produce. If anything here is unclear, write to us.
Enduring Stories is a service operated by MILC Holdings Pty Ltd (ABN 68 163 567 048) ("Enduring Stories", "we", "us", "our"), based in Queensland, Australia. We capture guided life-story interviews and produce them into private audio and written heirlooms for families. In this policy, "you" means the person who purchases or uses our service, and the people whose stories we help capture.
We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and our practices are also informed by the principles set out in the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for the families we serve outside Australia.
From time to time, a member of our small team may listen back to a recording for craft reasons: to notice where the interview could have been handled better and to refine how the interviewer asks questions in future. This work happens under confidentiality. It helps us improve the human craft behind the interview, and it is not the same as training artificial intelligence models on your content.
We do not use your recordings, transcripts, photographs or intake answers to train artificial intelligence models. Your family's content is captured to produce your heirloom, not to build a product out of your stories.
To deliver the service we rely on third-party providers that process some of your information on our behalf (described below). Those providers operate under their own terms, which we do not control and do not speak for. We choose providers we consider reputable and appropriate for the work, and we limit what we send them to what is needed to deliver your heirloom.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share information only in the following ways:
Your audio, transcript, photographs and hosted page are held on private, encrypted servers located in the United States, with our infrastructure provider. Some of the providers we use to deliver the service are also located outside Australia. This means your information may be stored or processed overseas. Where personal information is disclosed to overseas recipients, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with this policy and applicable privacy law.
Hosting of your heirloom page is included for three years from delivery, and can be extended. You can download your audio and transcript from the moment your heirloom is delivered and keep your own copies indefinitely; we encourage every family to do this.
We keep account and transaction records for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations. You can ask us to delete the personal information we hold about you and your family at any time, as described below.
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, including encryption of stored audio and files, private access controls on hosted pages, and restricting internal access to the small number of people involved in producing your heirloom. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond promptly if a problem arises.
You can ask us at any time to:
To make a request, write to us through our contact page. Deletion requests are handled manually for now: we will confirm receipt promptly, complete the deletion as soon as we reasonably can, and confirm in writing when it is done. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au. Families in the EU or UK may also have the right to complain to their local data protection authority.
Our service is purchased by adults and is not directed at children. The people interviewed are usually older adults. If you arrange for a person under 18 to be interviewed, you are responsible for obtaining the consent of their parent or guardian. If you believe we hold information about a child without appropriate consent, write to us and we will address it.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "last updated" date at the top. If a change is significant, we will take reasonable steps to let affected customers know.
For any privacy question or request, write to us through our contact page. You can also reach us by post at MILC Holdings Pty Ltd, PO Box 2424, Ascot QLD 4007, Australia. See also our Terms of Service.
